5 Ways Journaling Benefits Your Life
How do you feel about journaling? Is your life so hectic that journaling is that one more thing to do and
you just don’t see how investing the precious little time you do have would pay off? That was me. For over
thirty years I told myself there wasn’t enough time in the day to breathe, let alone write. If I had known
then what I know now I would’ve invested the little snatches of time and reaped significant returns.
Journaling is one of those great untapped resources that you won’t see the benefits of until you are actually doing it. Here are 5 ways journaling will bless your life:
Memories
1—The older you get the more memories you collect. Journaling helps recover those memories and details of important family events. It also keeps minds clear and active.

2—It provides a free self-help form of therapy in many ways:
o Journaling helps focus your feelings into words. Solutions often present themselves by the time I finish an entry. A neighbor of mine suffers from extreme anxiety. When she married she let her husband read her journal. It gave him insight into her world and helped him understand her and what he could do to help her.
o It will help you feel gratitude. When you feel particularly overwhelmed list your burdens on one side of your page, then list your blessings on the other side. You will be amazed at how much lighter your burdens feel.
o Journaling creates your very own form of personal scripture when you include your testimony of the Savior and inspiration that comes to you.
o Writing a letter to or from a loved one who has passed away helps the healing process. When my granddaughter passed away I wrote a letter from her point of view to her parents thanking them for giving her the chance to live. It helped me through a most difficult time.
o Journaling encouraging quotes helps to keep things in perspective. Positive affirmations build self-esteem.

Family

Lists
4—It provides a home for your to-do lists and helps you track them. Even if you don’t get time to make an official entry those lists still show a picture of your day.
Dreams for the Future
5—Journaling is MAGIC. It not only records your past but makes room for your dreams of the future helping you focus those dreams into goals. It allows you to concentrate your energy on the positive outcomes you desire.
I believe journaling wasn’t meant to be one more thing to do. It is a tool to bless our lives by helping focus dreams into goals, track action plans and to-do lists, show family members how important they are, promote emotional well-being, and recover wonderful memories. Journaling is Magic!
Journaling is like all things we try in life. The more consistently we practice, the more we benefit.
Journaling always,
