The Sorting Hat pop-up card
Printing off the Sorting Hat pdf from the FREE Printables page. I used toast colored textured paper for my copies but the pdf is colored this way so you can use whatever heavier quality paper you want. For best results use a good quality 28 pound paper, or for a more authentic look you could use a crumpled paper sack or Kraft paper–hint–don’t crumple it until after you’ve printed.
Get a good, sturdy brown colored pencil and add to the shading on the printable for a more homemade look. The inside is shaded a little differently to include the face. You will notice the tips of the hat and very bottoms didn’t copy all the way to the edge. Fill those spots in with brown colored pencil. Cut out carefully around the edges. Fold the outside of the hat in half.
After coloring the inside, I folded it in half and cut a slit perpendicular to the fold where I wanted the mouth to go. Look for the guide lines on the printable. Then I folded the top and bottom of the mouth outward. I had to watch a tutorial on Pop-Up books to figure this out. I also cut eyes, but you could shade them instead.
Place the two pieces of the hat together, the face inside of the outside piece and glue the two pieces together being careful not to glue the mouth. Shade inside the mouth and add “Better be. . . Gryffindor.”
Fold the tip of the hat inward and downward.
